Stripes and Green Earth Foundation (SAGE) is the vision of a wildlife-enthusiast couple who were deeply committed to giving back to nature and its living beings. The name reflects our core philosophy:

•    Stripes stands for the tiger—a keystone species and apex predator that plays a critical role in maintaining ecological balance. Without such keystone species, ecosystems unravel, as unchecked growth of primary and secondary consumers can deplete producers and destabilize the entire food web.

•    Green Earth symbolizes nature, forests, and the environment—the very essence of our planet's health.

•    The acronym SAGE further draws from the dual meaning: a wise, noble being and a healing herb—representing harmony, healing, and the wisdom to coexist with the wild.

Our Roots

SAGE took root in the landscapes of Central India, where the idea was born. As the seed sprouted, it found fertile ground in Kolkata, where it grew into a collective effort involving passionate, like-minded professionals from diverse walks of life—each united by one mission: to protect and preserve nature and its beings.

We believe that the true custodians of nature are the communities living on the forest fringes. Empowering and supporting them is the most sustainable path to conservation. With this belief, we began our journey in the Indian Sundarbans—the largest delta on Earth—and across South Bengal, working to uplift the socio-economic conditions of these communities, while safeguarding their surrounding environment and wildlife.

Our foot print gradually increased and expanded our work on human elephant conflict in Sanjay Dubri Tiger Reserve & Annupur in Madhya Pradesh, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Swantwadi, Kolhapur in Maharashtra, Kagaznagar in Telengana and Keonjhar & Bonai division in North Odisha.
